At 49, I decided to begin a new career in Women's Reproductive Health Services. Having worked with my husband, Dr. Ardie Singh, a Chiropractic Physician, for over 15 years while raising our daughter, now 15, I was ready for a change.
While pregnant with Jasmin, we had studied the Bradley method of childbirth, wrote a birthing plan, and used the O.S.U. Certified Nurse Midwives. My labor was long, and difficult, and while the birth did not go as we had hoped, our Bradley instructor, Mia, had acted as our Doula. She made a huge difference in the experience.
Having an unplanned Cesarean delivery, made caring for Jasmin challenging those first few weeks. We hired a post-partum Doula, and again this amazing woman offered incredible assistance at a very difficult time. Jasmin was a demanding baby, and the thing we did best together was nurse! I became a La Leche League Volunteer, and breastfed Jasmin for well over a year. The support I received from other nursing moms was invaluable, and very empowering. Women helping, supporting, and nurturing women was becoming a life theme!
Now, years later, I am a Certified Birth Doula with DONA (Doulas of North America). For more information, see http://www.DONA.org. I am a member of DONA and Birthworkers of Central Ohio, an organization of birth professionals.I am also a part of Columbus Birth Community.
My family and I live in Old Worthington. They are as excited as I am about my journey into professional labor assisting. They support me in continuing my education in additional studies in post-partum, lactation, and childbirth education.
I am also a professionally trained chef. Other interests include yoga, old movies, and reading chick-lit. I volunteer my time for PTA, school sports, girl scouts, and a 1 on 1 cancer survivor program.
